It's Saturday. Yep, Saturday evening and I'm just now posting Friday's BlogHer NaBloPoMo post.
A warning: This might get a bit "linky." And by linky I mean, whoever is curious enough to visit today's blog post about yesterday just may find a link or two. If there are any links they'll look like this: bold, italicized, & underlined. They may even be further highlighted by appearing in a special font color and background that I've chosen to draw attention to the link which will lead to another post or website when you click on it. Get the picture? Try it on the link in the following paragraph.
So, Friday. Hmm... title? BlogHer prompt for October 24, 2014 is: "If babyhood is spring and young adulthood is summer, which age do you consider to be the start to the "autumn" of life?" Now, to come up with a title and jot down my thoughts on this. Hmm... I think I have it!

Are You There Autumn, It's Me Lil
I'm not sure when "Autumn" stage of life begins. When my mom was in her mid 40s I thought she was pretty cool, hip even. Well, maybe not hip and cool so much... more like, fun. Yes, she was fun to be around. I just did the math. I was 10 when my mom was 45-ish! Seems she didn't hit "Winter" until, maybe, age 80. No kidding... really. As for me, personally, I think I reached my Autumn when my first child reached 21. Or maybe when I saw my second child off to college. Perhaps it won't actually happen until my third (and last) child turns 18 or graduates from high school... next Spring! Which ever. I'm ready for this Autumn stage of life. It is my favorite season after all. Who knows. I'll keep you posted.
There you go, and there wasn't a single link to be had beyond the sample link. Cool, right? Now, on to NaBloPoMo post for Saturday, October 25, 2014. See you in a bit.

Winging It
This post is a perfect example. I came up with the title,"Winging It," a couple of days ago, intending to wing it. Instead, I'm dragging. Fact is, I dragged myself out of bed to write. Yeah, winging it... I think not.
In the past I had a daily routine. Now, I'm winging it? When I think of wings, naturally, I imagine flying. I'm so not flying right now. It's more like time is dragging. Worse, like I'm being dragged around by those quail and roadrunners that I encounter every time I pull out of the driveway... it doesn't feel good. In actuality, it is I who is dragging. I have to drag myself here, or there, but mostly, drag myself out of bed... this is bad. Having zero plan is a problem.
I could place blame on economics. I could resent the fact that my body doesn't work the way it should. But you know what, I'm gonna just admit, I cannot do change. I do not like change... never have. I wish I were more like my kids. I suppose this is supposed to be a gentler, less hectic phase of life, after all...
I think I'm doing it wrong.
Until tomorrow ~ Lil

I'm Fifty!
Well almost... give me a couple of years. I love that my birthday's in January. I love January's wintery, cold, wet weather. No matter where I've lived, my favorite gift to ask for each year is a gorgeous blue sky peeking through rain-filled clouds ready to burst the minute I step outside. I love that over my lifetime, that's exactly what I've gotten on my birthday. I love the rain. That's what I want on my birthday.
Not quite fifty, but working my way there as healthy as possible, is what I am aiming for. I never thought I'd see 27 after all. Mom may have survived a major stroke at 27, but I was positive I wouldn't even get there. Sylvia didn't see 36, I prayed I would not suffer same fate as she. I have missed her everyday for almost 17 years.
What I am going to do is lose 50 lbs before I reach age 50. Should be easy, right? Started South Beach meal plan today. I've managed to lose 30lbs following meal plan in the past; shouldn't be a problem re-working it now. It can only be a benefit when it comes to staving off full blown diabetes. As of today, my weight checks in at 1-3lbs. Sure, I'm going to share that. HA!

So here I am a few weeks shy of turning 48. It's only January 2nd and everyone's focus is on keeping New Year's resolutions, but that's not for me... never has been, actually. I know I'm weak, so why bother. This year however, while not resolving to begin or stop doing anything in particular, I am anticipating change. I must prepare for upcoming monumental life altering events (in addition to continuing suffering ongoing trauma carrying over from last year). I've raised, and come May, seen two of my children reach completion of grade school. They've reached their time to move on; I wouldn't stop them. No one stopped me.
Winter break ends for my high schoolers tonight. My oldest daughter has spent her holiday relaxing from grueling studies that led up to finals before school let out mid-December. This weekend, she was back hitting the books and drafting essay to submit with college applications. She wants to go to college. She's hoping for a full scholarship. She wants to teach. She is so smart. I love her so much. I want all her hopes and wishes and dreams to come true. I hope college happens for her. She accomplished what was asked of her... was an outstanding student. I hope it pays off and that she is able to pursue her dream of attending university.
But... I am missing her already.
*****
So this is the plan. I will relish every single moment with her until the day I hug and kiss her good-bye.

June 23rd ~ What A Day!
That's all... what a day. I liked the idea of making a few changes here and there as Summer 2011 began. You know, incorporating tiny little changes - hardly noticeable - and see what happens. Making a couple of major changes a few weeks ago have seemed to get off to a nice and steady start: Attending week-day church services each morning specifically to create an "I can" attitude and eating healthier because I don't like feeling horribly ill and not being able to do anything about it, like go to emergency room. On Tuesday, it hit me... the idea that time had come for change. Real change. First thing, add music back into my life. So being first day of Summer, I took a quick mental inventory of favorite summertime tunes. Smooth by Santana stood out; listened to it several times throughout the day. Love that song. I even had my son dig out the one Santana cd I own to have in the car to listen to on my Wednesday morning drive to church. Next day, I rock n' rolled to church with music blaring, replaying Game of Love; singing loud and proud. I felt great.
Now, with my recent weight issue (not to mention breathing, moving, sleeping) I thought I could do better than 1/2 hour evening walks, so I decided to re-visit South Beach to help alleviate concern that I may be well into living with full-blown diabetes. Back in the day when we had health insurance coverage and proper managed medical care, Autumn (our previous health care provider) told me to do South Beach because I was "this close" to being pre-diabetic. I stopped to buy the meal plan book on my way back home from the doctor office visit, followed the plan, lost 30lbs and felt like a million bucks after a month. So Tuesday, I thought what the hell, let's do it! And, I'm off to a great start. Weight-scale reads nicely already. It also helps that funds are available to purchase decent dinner items to prepare.
I was totally appreciating the little spring in my step which developed as a result of these minor changes, but... I forgot... it all catches up with me if I "over-do it." What constitutes "over-doing it" - nearly anything. Being sensitive to light, daybreak this morning awoke me at the most undesirable hour: 5:43! I was awake, but could barely move. Good thing I was able to fall back to sleep; too deep into sleep, because I missed my alarm to get up in time for church. So I missed mass for the first time in two and a half weeks - pain and stiffness throughout my body told me it was just not meant to be today. Good thing though, I was able to go out for a dog food run with my girl and boy and shop for tonight's dinner later in the day. We listened to my favorite Bridget Jones Diary 1&2 soundtrack tunes and they let me sing at the top of my lungs. It was good.
Hoping I remember to tone things down a bit tomorrow, so that I don't further tailspin health-wise just because I'm trying to have fun again. Must keep things in check if change is to be positive... and on-going. Oh, and the other change I like: wearing dresses... okay, one dress - the only one that fits... but that'll change too. Later.

June 20th ~ Uninspired. But something has to change.
Yeah... that's what I need. Change. C-H-A-N-G-E. Change. Hmmmm Checked my pockets... 83 cents! What can 83 cents buy these days? Anything? Maybe a piece of chocolate candy!?! Change is good.
Big change for me this week - in light of probability that I may now have full-blown diabetes: Food. Nibbled on a small piece of low-fat cheese when I got home from church. Scrambled eggs and piece of lean ham for breakfast; coffee. Snack of small portion of popcorn Sarah leftover, and a yummy passion-lemonade over ice. It's Monday, so... Day One. We'll see how this goes. *Hungry*
Gathering bills this afternoon as funds are expected in mid-week. I think we will be okay keeping utilities and services open for another month. Thank God. Need all methods of communication open and available while job searches continue. Still no cash available for car payments to be caught up; this will put a major crimp in things. Oh well. *Hopeful*
Asking for R.J.'s help with posting of "R.J.'s Blanket Book" on blog. Still holding on to dream that it will be published and sold "in stores near you." *Praying*
Now... back to work! Laundry, here I come!!
*Hungry*
